What’s brewing: GBV activists backs Enhle Mbali in DJ Coffee abuse claims
Enhle Mbali, who has been made a Winnie Mandela Cup ambassador last week, has expressed her gratitude for the support of GBV activists at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday 12 April.
GBV activists and supporters gathered outside the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in support of actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa who filed for a protection order against her estranged husband, Nkosinathi “DJ Black Coffee” Maphumulo.
A group of supporters from the Ntethelelo Foundation was seen outside the court wearing white T-shirts with hashtags “Justice for Enhle”.
Judgment for the protection order was reserved as both parties will be issued with a summons. The matter is expected back in court on April 28.
ENHLE MBALI THANKS GBV SUPPORTERS
The famous DJ’s wife, Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, thanked the GBV activists for coming out to support her at the court in a video she posted on her Instagram on Monday 12 April.
In March, Enhle Mbali applied for a protection order against DJ Black Coffee after accusing him of physically abusing her at her 33rd birthday party which was held at their marital home.
Following the abuse claims, many GBV activists stepped out in support of the fashion designer and actress.
In the recent post, Mbali is seen with GBV activists holding placards, of which one reads “Enough is Enough”, in her support.
“GOD. ???????? thank you,” she captioned the post.
GBV GROUPS DEMAND JUSTICE FOR ENHLE MBALI
Aside from the GBV activists showing up at the court, various other activists also weighed in on the matter. Activist Ntsiki Mazwai previously called out Black Coffee regarding the abuse claims.
She called Black Coffee a “vile human being” and labelled all the guests at Enhle Mbali’s birthday party as “cowardly” for not standing up for her.
Non-government organisation (NGO) Mzansi Act Now, who act on GBV and femicide and is headed by Tebogo Edward Lerole, also released a statement in which they raised their concerns for Mbali.
“Act Now is deeply disappointed by what is reported to have transpired in this regard. We wish to place it on record that as an organisaton we have no tolerance for womxn abused and take the allegations seriously and urge both parties to fully cooperate with law enforcement,” said the statement in regard to the Black Coffee abuse claims made by Enhle Mbali.
AMBASSADOR OF WINNIE MANDELA CUP
About a week ago, Mbali announced that she is an ambassador for the Winnie Mandela Cup 2021, a platform for women empowerment through a soccer tournament to intensify the fight against gender-based violence.
“I pledge to in my personal life and career to stand up against GBV. Pledge to be a mini Winnie in the fight, as that’s what the cup stands for,” wrote Enhle Mbali on Instagram.
She also mentioned fellow ambassadors, including Ghana-based actress Marie Humbert and international soccer player Juliano Belleti whom she described as:
“A man who supports woman in their fight against GBV.”
