1. Elaine

Ndivhuwo Mukheli, popularly known as Elaine, is a South African R&B singer and songwriter from Pretoria.

Elaine, 21, released her EP titled Elements and recently signed to Columbia Records, home to artists such as Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and Adele.

Her song You’re The One has more than 2.5 million views on YouTube.

Her EP reached top spot on both the national iTunes and Apple Music album chart, making her the first independent female artist to do so.

2. Nasty C

The award-winning rapper – real name Nsikayesizwe Ngcobo – started as an independent artist and later signed to Mabala Noise.

In March, Nasty C signed an exclusive deal with legendary hip-hop label Def Jam Recordings through a joint venture with Universal Music Africa.

Nasty C has also won almost every hip-hop award in South Africa, as well as a few continental awards.

3. DJ Black Coffee

Nkosinathi Maphumulo, whom we know as Black Coffee, is an international house DJ who was born in Durban. The 44-year-old artist is now based in New York City.  

He has collaborated with artists, such as David Guetta and Usher. He has scooped several awards, including the Breakthrough DJ of the Year award at the DJ Awards in Ibiza and BET Award for Best International Act.  

4. Sho Madjozi

This 31-year-old Tsonga rapper and song writer originally wore the name Maya Wegerif. She also signed with Epic Records earlier in 2020, and became the first South African to do so.

Sho Madjozi is not new on the international stage: In 2019 she bagged her first BET Award for Best International Act. She also was Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award Favourite African Star.

• Nomzamo Mbatha: The Durban-born 32-year-old actress lives in California. Mbatha also signed a management deal with Creative Artists Agency and starred in Coming 2 America alongside major-league Hollywood stars Wesley Snipes and Eddie Murphy.

• Trevor Noah: The Daily Show presenter moved to the US in 2015 and is ranked as one of the best comedians in the world. In 2019, Forbes magazine ranked Noah as the fourth highest paid comedian.

• Charlize Theron: The Benoni-born star was the first South African to win an Oscar, which she won for Monster in 2003. Theron has starred in many famous Hollywood movies and scooped many awards.

1. ‘TED LASSO’ SEASON TWO

The trailer for the second season of the comedy Ted Lasso starring Jason Sudeikis is here and already has more than three million views! 

The football coach is back in his stride to take his team to victory despite the draw streak they’ve been on. Ted Lasso returns to Apple Tv plus on 23 July. 

2. ‘THE SUICIDE SQUAD’ 

With over 5.9 million views, The Suicide Squad’s official Rain trailer has dropped and the safety of the world is in the hands of a bunch of supervillains. 

Directed by James Gunn, the trailer sees Viola Davis as Amanda Waller recruiting her suicide squad on a mission to destroy Nazi-era prison and fighting Starro, a telepathic starfish.

According to CNN, Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) are set to return. While new faces include John Cena, Idris Elba, Pete Davidson and more. The film will be released in cinemas on 6 August and will be exclusively streamed on HBO Max.

3. ‘THE HARDER THEY FALL’

Netflix has released the official teaser trailer for their upcoming new school western film The Harder They Fall directed by Jeymes Samuel and written by Samuel and Boaz Yakin.

The teaser, featuring a star-studded cast, already reached more than 1.5 million views on YouTube.

The synopsis according to Netflix reads,

“When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) is being released from prison he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge.”

“Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (RJ Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally. Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose.” 

The release date has not yet been confirmed.

SHAKING UP THE AIRWAVES IN JOBURG

STARFM now resides on the 91.9 FM frequency which was previously home to Joburg’s Best Old Skool and R&B station, Hot 91.9 FM. Hot 91.9 has migrated to the 102.7 FM frequency which was previously held by Classic102.7 FM.

Listeners can still delight in the classical sounds of Classic 102.7 on DSTV Audio Channel 857 or via online audio streaming. Classic FM is now known as Hot Classic.

A RISING STAR IS BORN

STARFM 91.9’s programme manager Caren Du Preez is eager and excited about the new station, which she believes will become a firm favourite in no time.

The Blinding Lights singer confirmed on social media on 29 June that he has signed on to play a charismatic Los Angeles club boss and cult leader in Euphoria creator Sam Levinson’s new series, The Idol.

According to Variety, the star will also co-write and executive produce the series alongside Levinson and Reza Fahim. which centres around his character’s illicit relationship with a female pop singer and will be based in Los Angeles.

THE WEEKND JOINS ‘THE IDOL’ CREATIVE TEAM

The Idol, which centres around his character’s illicit relationship with a female pop singer, will be The Weeknd’s first character role, but he is known for portraying diverse characters for his outlandish music videos.

Apart from The Weeknd, Levinson and Fahim, Joseph Epstein will also write and serve as the executive producer and showrunner while Mary Laws will write and co-executive produce. 

MORE THAN JUST MUSIC CREDITS TO HIS NAME

While Levinson is known as the creator of HBO’s award-winning series Euphoria starring Zendaya Coleman, The Weeknd has more than just his music credits to his name.

The Save Your Tears hitmaker has previously written and starred in an episode of the cult hit animated series American Dad and he played himself in the critically acclaimed film Uncut Gems starring beside Adam Sandler.

The Weeknd confirmed the news by posting screenshots of both Variety and Deadline’s article to his 32 million Instagram followers and retweeting to 14.7 million Twitter followers. 

He captioned the post “The Idol @HBO”.

Due to the series still being in the developmental stage there is no further information available on the characters or cast as yet.

The stand-alone film, directed by veteran anime filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama, will explore and expand the story behind the fortress of Helm’s Deep, which is depicted in an epic battle sequence in 2002 movie The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and Helm Hammerhand, who it is named after.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set around 250 years before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and focuses on the legendary ninth King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand.

The film, which is said to be a “companion piece” to director Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy, will delve into the life and “bloodsoaked times” of Hammerhand’s rule.

The project is not connected to Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series.

The War of the Rohirrim is being fast tracked by the studios so animation and voice casting are already underway.

“We are about to launch a series of products under our new wing, The Root of Fame with Cassper Nyovest. This partnership goes beyond music and sneakers, it’s a showcase of black excellence through the power of collaboration,” according to Drip Footwear’s Facebook page.

A BREAKDOWN OF THE R100 MILLION

In an interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG, Sehoana has provided some clarity on what the R100 million amount of the partnership entails.  

“It’s just the products, we signed a contract worth R100 million of the products. If it is a sneaker or a T-shirt worth R2,000 we are going to make ones that are worth R100 million, up until that particular term ends,” he said.

1. LUPIN PART TWO 

The mystery series Lupin Part Two follows Lupin, a retelling of the classic French story about Arsene Lupin, a renowned gentlemen thief. Part two covers Assane’s quest for revenge against Hubert Pellegrini. He now has to think of a new plan with his back being against the wall.

The food and travel reality series follows Daym Drops as he looks around America for the freshest takes on fried food. Fresh fried and crispy comes to Netflix on 9 June.

3.AWAKE 

Also coming to Netflix on 9 June is Awake, a sci-fi thriller starring Jane The Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez, Ariana Greenblatt and Frances Fisher.

Awake follows the aftermath of a global event that wipes out all electronics and takes away humankinds ability to sleep. However, an ex-soldier with a troubled past may hold the key to a cure in the form of her own daughter. 

4. SKATER GIRL

The drama film follows a teen in rural India who discovers a life-changing passion for skateboarding; however, she is faced with a rough road as she follows her dream to complete. Skater Girl stars Rachel Saanchita Gupta as the ‘Skater Girl’ as well as Amrit Maghera and Johnathan Readwin. 

The film is directed by Manjari Makijany and releases on 11 June. 

5.CONFUSION NA WA

The 2013 crime drama set in Nigeria follows the lives of strangers that become intertwined over the course of a day starring OC Ukeje, Ramsey Nouah and Ali Nuhu. 

6. OUR LADIES

The 2019 drama comedy Our Ladies is set in Scotland in the 1980s as a group of Catholic school girls get an opportunity to go to Edinburgh for a choir competition, but they become more interested in partying.

The film stars Tallulah Greive, Abigail Lawrie and Stuart Martin.

A Sunday World article stated that Holly Rey, whose real name is Holly Wasserfall, also said that her decision to part ways with Black Coffee’s record label has also partly been influenced by her desire to  pave her independent music career path under her label, Rey Music.

The Spend My Time hitmaker, who has been hailed as the next Tamara Dey and has been with Soulistic Music for less than a year, said she wants to grow independently and wants to avoid the negative press associated with the GBV claims.

She told Sunday World: 

“I left the record label earlier this year because I realised there was much more I can do as an independent artist, and then the scandal came through. I loved working at Soulistic Music, but with everything that is happening, I think it is best that I work on myself my own way.”

Better ‘business sense’ to distance from Black Coffee

The Sama award-winning musician said her move makes better business sense and she’s glad that she was able to release her single successfully and also promised her fans an EP later this year.

The Durban artist didn’t change her mind about leaving, even after DJ Black Coffee was found not guilty at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife on her birthday in their Sandton home this year.

Other musicians who are signed with Soulistic Music label, include Zakes Bantwini, Culoe De Song and DJ Thakzin.

Who is Holly Rey?

Apart from joining Black Coffee’s famous label, Holly Rey shot to fame as the first woman in 20 years to bag the 2019 Record of the Year Award at the SA Music Awards (Samas) after Brenda Fassie.

Black Coffee vs Enhle

DJ Black Coffee and the actress, Enhle Mbali were recently trending when Mbali suggested that the award-winning DJ intentionally didn’t pay their electricity bill which led to their electricity being cut off at her home.

The Rockville actress shocked her followers when she posted a picture of herself in the dark with a candle on her Instagram story with the caption: “We gonna shame the devil and enjoy the darkness. Me and my boys.”

Lost Cause is the fourth single from the Billie Eilish’s upcoming album Happier Than Ever to be released on 30 July. This follows the release of Therefore I Am and My Future that dropped last year and the debut of Eilish’s platinum blonde hair in Your Power.

A clip of the video was initially teased last week with just a close-up of the star who has swapped her black-and-green hairdo for a platinum look recently.

In January this year Billie Eilish announced that she is releasing an intimate photobook on her life sharing never-seen-before photographs. The 19-year-old also released a documentary titled Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry in February this year which follows her journey on stage, on the road and at home as she was writing and recording her debut album.

The Hallucinate hitmaker released her chart-topping LP Future Nostalgia in March 2020 and, the prolific star – who continued the era with the release of the remix LP Club Future Nostalgia – is already steaming ahead with concepts for its follow-up.

‘Gully’: The plot

Three teens living in Los Angeles, all victims of extreme childhoods, wreak a hedonistic riot across the city over the course of 48 hours, unbound by societal norms. They take us on a rip-roaring ride of drugs and murder across the city. But when the rampage stops, the retribution begins.

It had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on 27 April 2019, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it has only been released today (4 June) in cinemas.

GRIMES TEASES NEW MUSIC

A vocal sample featuring Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, was previewed at Chris Lake’s live performance to a huge crowd in Arizona. Grimes shared a clip of the teaser on her social media platforms. 

“Should we release this? @chrislake,” the captioned the post. 

Fans on Twitter think it’s a yes, as they shared their excitement in the comments section of the post. 

This would be the first song released by Grimes since Miss Anthropocene Rave Edition released earlier this year and her step into the EDM scene. This could make the father-of-her-child and CEO of Tesla Motors Elon Musk excited as he has been stepping into the EDM scene himself with the release of Don’t Doubt Your Vibe in 2020. 

GRIMES TIKTOK ON AI AND COMMUNISM GOES VIRAL

Yesterday 3 June, Grimes posted a video talking about communism and Artificial intelligence (AI). The video is captioned “A.I. Is the fastest path to communism” on Tik-Tok.

“So typically most of the communists I know are not big fans of AI but if you think about it, AI is actually the fastest path to communism. So if implemented correctly, AI could actually, theoretically solve for abundance like we could totally get to a situation where nobody has to work, everyone is provided for with a comofable state of being,” said Grimes.

“AI could automate all the farming, weed out systematic corruption therefore, bringing us, as close as possible to genuine equality. So basically, everything that everyone loves about communism but without the collective farm,” she added. 

However, people are confused at Grimes’ support for communism considering that her boyfriend Elon Musk is a billionaire. She later responded to these comments saying,

“Haha I am not a communist! This iz (sic) a joke – but maybe the technocrats and communists could get along!”

2021 is the gift of films that keeps on giving. Here is a quick look at our trio of trailers pick.

1. ‘INFINITE’

Infinite brings a trio of treats: Mark Wahlberg, Chris Evans and Dylan O’Brein. Adapted from D. Eric Maikranz’s novel The Reincarnationist Papers, Infinite is based on the hallucinations of a schizophrenic that turns out to be memories from his past lives where he received talents that he still has to this day. 

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film will be available on the Paramount Plus streaming service on 10 June.

2. ‘WEREWOLVES WITHIN’ 

Werewolves Within is an upcoming horror/comedy based on a virtual reality game from Ubisoft. The film circles around a snowstorm that traps residents inside a local inn where forest ranger Finn and postal worker Cecily attempt to keep the peace and uncover the truth behind a mysterious creature which has been terrorising the community. 

The film will hit United States (US) cinemas from 25 June and will be available on demand from 2 July. The film stars Milana Vayntrub, Harvey Guillen and Sam Richardson. 

3. THE TOMORROW WAR

Starring Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin and Seychelle Gabriel, The Tomorrow War is an action film based on a man drafted to fight in a future war leaving the fate of humanity in his hands. 

The Tomorrow War premieres globally on Amazon Prime on 2 July. As this is Chris Pratt’s first executive producer credit on a feature film, he promises this is going to be a good one!

MOST VIEWS FOR DISNEY-MARVEL PANDEMIC FILM

This marks the biggest online trailer drop for a Disney-Marvel film since the 14 months of the pandemic. Eternals beat the initial 24-hour traffic that Disney’s Cruella trailer received which was not far behind with 71 million views.

The film follows a diverse group of heroes who, according to Deadline, are technically aliens from an immortal race who have secretly lived on earth among civilians for thousands of years. Eternals is based in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is set after the tragic events that occurred in Avengers: Endgame. 

The film is scheduled to open in cinemas on 5 November. 

DIRECTED BY CHLOE ZHAO

Chinese-born director Chloe Zhao made history this year at the Academy Awards for being the first woman of colour to take home the Best Director Award for her film Nomadland and only the second female in the history of the awards show to be given the title. 

Her directing won her several other awards this year, such as a Critics Choice Award, a Golden Globe, a Bafta and more. Now she’s bringing the world Eternals from Marvel. 

CAST OF ‘ETERNALS’ REVEALED 

There is already an Eternals comic book written by Kieron Gillen, however the superheroes are not as popular as other Marvel characters. Marvel got ahead of this minor setback by bringing in an all star cast. 

The familiar faces to grace your screens this November are Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Game of Thrones Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Kit Harington as Black Knight, Richard Madden as Ikaris and Barry Keoghan as Druig.

‘Friends’ cast shares what they think their characters would be up to today

The six main cast members told People where they see their characters being today. 

“I would like to have maybe started a clothing line of my own, and it’s sort of a small franchise. Like a Nili Lotan. And I live in New York City on the Upper East Side,” said Jennifer Aniston of her character Rachel. 

“I always just feel like Monica would be doing something competitively with other mothers and trying to outdo them. Whether it’s the bake sale at school or something. I mean, she’d be so annoying. She’d be at the head of the PTA or something,” said Courteney Cox of Monica. 

“Living in Connecticut with Mike and their kids, and she’s in charge of the arts program for the school and just … the advocate for her kids because they’re different like she was,” said Lisa Kudrow of Phoebe. 

Chanler according to Matthew Perry “would be a wonderful father and a wonderful comedy writer.” Matt LeBlanc thinks Joey “would have opened a chain of sandwich shops.” David Schwimmer says Ross “playin’ with the bones” as a paleontologist and he would’ve invested in Joey’s sandwich shop and lost a lot of his savings for his kids.” 

ZENDAYA’S ‘EUPHORIA’ SEASON TWO SNEAK PEEK

‘EUPHORIA’ RECAP

Directed by Sam Levinson, Euphoria follows Rue, played by Zendaya as she returns to high school after rehab. The series focuses on how she navigates her friendships and relationships as a recovering addict. Zendaya’s performance as Rue in the hit series won her an Emmy last year as she became the youngest Emmy winner in the best actress in a drama series category. 

The first season of the series premiered with eight episodes in June 2019 and a month after its debut, it was renewed for a second season. However, production had to be halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

“I do miss Rue. She’s like my little sister in a lot of ways. And going back to that character is a home base for me. There is a beautiful second season that has been written, but in order to do it the way we want to do it, we need to wait until it’s safer,” said Zendaya in an interview with Instyle Magazine. 

At the time, there was the idea of shooting a couple of bridge episodes to keep fans happy. These episodes were subsequently aired in December. 

“There is an idea to do a couple of bridge episodes that can be shot safely but aren’t necessarily part of Season 2,” added Zendaya.

COLLECTION OF BEHIND-THE-SCENES BOOKS 

According to Dazed Digital, A24 will be releasing a collection of eight books of behind-the-scenes Euphoria footage. Each book will cover an episode and features a cast interviews with Zendaya, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, as well as never-seen-before photographs taken by Jacob Elordi.

The books will also include questions and answers with crew members.

SUCCESSFUL FIRST SEASON

Ginny and Georgia follows the relationship of young mom Georgia Miller and her fifteen year old awkward daughter Ginny Miller who grew up on the move. The first season released back in February and frequently appeared in Netflix’s top 10 most watched series.

Netflix revealed that the Ginny and Georgia was watched by 52 million subscribers in its first 28 days of being released. The series made Netflix’s top 10 list in 87 countries worldwide, hitting the number one spot in 46 of those countries including the United States of America, Brazil, Australia and Kenya.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SEASON 2

According to Deadline, Ginny and Georgia season 2 will comprise of 10 episodes produced in Toronto, Canada. The second season will pick up on the repercussions of Georgia’s endless plotting and scheming in the New England town of Wellsbury. 

There are no further plot details of the second season, nor a release date, however, Antonia Gentry did let one thing slip. In an interview with TV Line she cleared up the confusion of where Ginny is headed at the end of the first season. 

“When she’s packing her bag, she grabs the book that Zion gives her, and if you were paying attention when Zion arrives and is giving her the book, you know that he included an address. He has that secret coded message in it, and she finds out that it’s his address to his Boston apartment. So I’m thinking it’s pretty reasonable to assume that Ginny might be headed toward Zion,” said Gentry to TV Line. 

GINNY AND GEORGIA CREW 

The first season had an all female creative team made up of showrunner/ executive producer Debra J Fisher, executive producer Sarah Lampert and director/ executive producer Anya Adams. The trio executively produce alongside Madica Productions Jeff Tahler, Critical Content’s Jenny Daly and Dynamic Television’s Holly Hines and Danie March as well as Elena Blekhter. 

“We are so appreciative of the incredible response and love you all have shown Ginny & Georgia. We’re especially grateful to Brianne and Toni, who set the highest bar every step of the way. We can’t wait to return to Wellsbury for season 2,” said Debra J. Fisher and Sarah Lampert in a statement to Variety.

A few weeks back, Nonkanyiso “Laconco” Chonco invited only Ayanda Ncwane and Nonku Williams to an event she hosted, excluding the housewives — Sorisha Naidoo, Anne-Tonni Lodick-Mthembu and Kgomotso Ndungane — who are not Zulu speaking.  

Lanconco later explained that she did not invite the non-Zulu speaking housewives because she wanted her guests to be comfortable and she thought that the language barrier may pose a problem. 

KGOMOTSO NDUNGANE SPEAKS UP

One of the housewives, Kgomotso Ndungane, stood her ground and voiced her opinion on the exclusion of invites and stated that she is willing to learn more about other tribes. 

“I am Tswana, I am married to a Xhosa man and I live in KZN. So I might not be fluent but if you have a chat with me in Zulu, I’ll be able to understand you. You always preaching women empowerment, you are actually empowering me to learn about your tribe,” said Ndungane. 

AYANDA NCWANE COMMENTS SPARK CONTROVERSY 

In the season’s finale, viewers were offended by a conversation between Ayanda Ncwane and Lanconco. The two ladies, who were deemed part of the “mean girls” of the show, were discussing Kgomotso Ndungane. 

Lanconco said that she wanted to ask Kgomotso what language she was fluent in since she spoke “terrible English and Setswana”. Ayanda Ncwane then went on to say that Kgomotso is not black, she is a Tshwane woman. This offended many viewers who thought that Ayanda Ncwane was coming off as tribalist.

Some users thought that this was way out of line and are calling for Ayanda Ncwane to apologise for her comments. 

Some even went as far as mentioning that people are e-mailing the broadcasting commission. 

However, others seemed to think the subtitling and direct translation was the problem, not Ayanda Ncwane.

The 25th instalment in the James Bond franchise, will reportedly hit cinemas in November 2021.

‘No Time to Die’: Biggest in-person premiere of post-pandemic era?

A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “MGM and the Bond producers are in agreement.

“They think they can pull off the biggest in-person premiere of the post-pandemic era, and have already put aside a whopping £10 million for an event in England that will signal the return of these kinds of flashy movie launches that everybody’s been missing for the last year.

“They are looking at the biggest venues in London, starting with Wembley and going down from there, and have enquired about the Staples Center in Los Angeles for a US premiere.”

The studio has always planned to launch the movie with a big red carpet event.

‘No Time to Die’: Plot synopsis

According to the Universal synopsis of No Time to Die, James Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Following the the suicide of the bullied 15-year-old Lufuno Mavhungo from Limpopo on 12 April, Somizi took to Twitter to express his thoughts on bullying and social media, specifically pointing out how toxic Twitter is.

SOMIZI: ‘BULLYING IS REAL’

Somizi has previously been trolled on Twitter for his sexuality and his rocky marriage with Mohale Motaung. 

“Bullying is real…….and especially in the social media streets…….Twitter being the most toxic app…..its never too late to be kind……bullies can be helped only if they accept that they’ need help….,” wrote Somizi. 

However, Somizi was trolled on his post about trolling. Twitter users did not agree with the image Somizi posted along with his thoughts on bullying. 

SOMIZI’S SHIRT SPARKS CONTROVERSY

The shirt he wore in his post had the following words printed on it: “I’m not bullable. I bully bullies.”

A Twitter user had the following to say about this:

“Then in the end we have a society infested with bullies. Person shrugging. Becoz one is bullied they too should turn into a bully. Revisit and revise this Somga.” 

Somizi agreed with the Tweep and responded to the comment explaining that when he had the shirt printed he was coming from a place of anger and frustration of constantly being bullied himself. 

“I completely agree with u and im gonna change it…..when I printed the tshirt the message came from a place of anger and frustration of being constantly bullied and sending a message that if ur a bully u have have come to a dead end with me….thanks for yo perspective,” explained Somizi. 

OTHER TWEEPS WEIGH IN

Other Tweeps shared the same perspective that bullying should not be a two-way street and by encouraging bullying, bullies we are subsequently normalising bullying.

‘TWITTER IS TOXIC’

Aside from the focus placed on bullying, other Tweeps agreed with Somizi’s statement that Twitter is toxic.

Somizi is not the only famous face to feel that way. Celebrities such as Bonang have previously expressed the same thoughts on the platform of Twitter, saying that it is has become “filthy”.

Celebrities on an international scale also feel the same way. In March, “Clapback queen” Chrissy Teigen decided to leave Twitter because it had a negative effect on her mental health.

The iconic Afrikaans band — comprised of Pierre Greeff, Hunter Kennedy, Johnny de Ridder, Fred den Hartog and Sheldon Yoko — will be performing live in the Musiekniek concert at Nooitgedacht Estate, in Stellenbosch, on 18 April 2021.

First Cape Town live show after a year

Die Heuwels Fantasties’ performance at Nooitgedacht will mark the band’s first performance back in Cape Town after 14 months.

“This is our first live show back in Cape Town after more than a year. We are super excited. I suppose we might feel the same emotions as the very first time that we played two decades ago,” enthused vocalist, and guitarist Pierre Greeff.

The band will be accompanied by Tarryn Lamb, rapper Early B and Corné Pretorius who both feature on their 2021 album. 

DHF wine collab: Taste of success

VIEWERS IN FOR A ‘TREAT’

As most soapies do, season one is set to end in a climax and lead actors Katlego Danke and Zolisa Xaluva will return for season two with the two main families turning against each other with further shocking revelations. The second season promises to bring betrayal, love and crime.

‘TWO HUES’ DIRECTORS

Two Hues was co-directed by Weaam Williams and Dominique Roxanne Jossie who are said to have both brought their individual elements to the film. 

Weaam Williams both directed and played the lead role of Natasa in the film. She was also nominated for Best Lead Actress in a short film at North Europe International Film Festival.

“After I decided to play the part of Natasa, I realized that it was not possible to direct this film alone. The choice of a co-director was a big decision, and Dominque came as highly recommended by a mutual colleague,” said Williams. 

“Dominique was very focused on delivering convincing performances, and I was focussed on the aesthetics of the film it’s art direction, and visual cues. I think we make a good team,” she added. 

“When I was approached to co-direct this film, I was intrigued by the theme of modern day mental illness amongst women specifically – an important topic that needs to be explored more in film. The style of Two Hues presented an opportunity to experiment creatively,” said Jossie.

SECOND INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR ‘TWO HUES’

The film, set in Bo-Kaap, Cape Town tells the story of a Muslim photographer who suffers from a bipolar disorder and is a victim of rape. The film plays on the themes of feminine psyche, mental disorder, explores patriarchy and the act of misogyny and was well received at other international film festivals as well. 

Back in January, the film won the Best Short Film award at the Beyond the International Curve Film Festival in Paris. 

The film was written back in 2016 around the time the #MeToo movement gained momentum and therefore also shed light on the pandemic of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in South Africa. 

WHERE TO WATCH

Two Hues is available to view in sub-Saharan Africa on cinemagic on the MTN platform.

“The film is performing well on the cinemagic platform, and I have also received an acquisitions agreement from a US based streaming platform for world wide rights, which I will undertake during the second half of the year, as the film is still doing the international festival circuit,” said Williams.

The film is on a winning streak and not stopping there, Two Hues is heading to the Kalakari Film Festival in India, and then Los Angeles.

‘VAX LIVE: THE CONCERT TO REUNITE THE WORLD’

Global Citizen announced that the aim of the global broadcast and streaming special of Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World is to tackle COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and celebrate a hopeful future for communities to reunite after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

RAMAPHOSA SHOWS SUPPORT FOR ‘VAX LIVE’ CONCERT

President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed that South Africa gives the event its full support as he urges the world’s leaders to free up access to vaccines for the poorer countries. 

“South Africa is fully behind this initiative to be part of a collective effort to recover after the devastating pandemic,” said President Cyril Ramaphosa according to Sowetanlive.

“The ‘Recovery Plan for the World’ is a good opportunity to get the international community working together to drive equitable access to vaccines for everyone, everywhere. Again, I urge world leaders to urgently free up excess supply for poorer countries,” the President continued.

“Today, the world is facing an unprecedented health, social and economic crisis. Now is the time to act in the interests of the whole world, now is the time to become truly global citizens,” the president added.

The Vax Live concert will be hosted by Selena Gomez and will feature a star-studded line-up of artists who will perform, such as Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, J Balvin, H.E.R and more.

‘THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE’

Being Bonang had three successful seasons that fans tuned in to see a glimpse of the real her and her lifestyle. However, back in 2019, Bonang said that making her hit reality show was the worst experience of her life and she is glad that it is ending.

The BarLeader TV production company claimed that all money was paid to Bonang’s management. 

“The tweet doesn’t refer to my company or anyone specific. All money was paid to her management,” said  Legend Manqele, BarLeader TV production company head, when asked for a comment by The Citizen. 

‘BEING BONANG’ CANCELLED FOR NOT PERFORMING 

The head of the TV production company further claimed that Being Bonang was cancelled because it was not performing and this was a decision made by the channel. 

“For the record, Being Bonang was cancelled because it wasn’t performing. It was the channel that decided not to continue with the reality show,” added Manqele to The Citizen.

However, The Citizen also reports that Being Bonang’s ratings broke records for the channel, with a viewership of 1.86 million for the first episode alone.

THE ANTICIPATED ‘MADAME X’ DOCCIE

Madonna is believed to have inked a deal with Netflix for her Madame X documentary which includes behind-the-scenes clips of the pop princess in action.

Madonna revealed that the documentary is X-rated and she wouldn’t mind it ending up on a porn site. She further explored the thought of putting the whole show up on OnlyFans.

Seapiracy was listed in Netflix’s top 10 films in over 30 countries within the first week of its release.

“One of the film’s ultimate goals is to create a global discussion around the topic of food choice and sustainability, that effects change on a personal, industrial, and governmental level,” said co-director Ali Tabrizi according to Hello Magazine.

LABELLED AN ‘EYE OPENER’

The 90-minute documentary was described as an eye opener by many Twitter users who were previously not aware of the extent the commercial fishing industry has on the environment. 

The documentary became even more popular with the help of influencers, such as Kourtney Kardashian, Florence Pugh and Bryan Adams, showing support, along with various activist groups and concerned consumers.

MIXED OPINIONS ON SOCIAL MEDIA 

However, the documentary still received mixed reviews on social media. 

‘SEASPIRACY’ CRITICISED FOR HAVING AN AGENDA

Although many viewers felt like the documentary was a total eye opener and subsequently expressed their horror at the impact that big industry marine companies have, the documentary was also criticised for having its own agenda.

One of the reviews of the documentary state that the “rhetorical methods distract from its revelations”.

“What begins as a study of ocean debris becomes a tour of the numerous agents of marine destruction and corruption, from the millions of sharks killed as incidental catch to the conservation organizations that Tabrizi suggests are motivated by profits,” according to The New York Times.

“But the film’s rhetorical style often feels like a cheap imitation of hard-hitting investigative journalism,” the critic added. 

The New York Times was not the only criticism that Seaspiracy received. The Independent also stated that the documentary is not gripping throughout the 90 minutes. 

“About halfway through, the documentary loses its shock factor – simply because after about an hour, the bleak statistics cease to surprise me,” according to The Independent.

THERE COULD BE EIGHT SEASONS 

Brigerton returning for both seasons three and four is a treat for fans across the world however, the series has the potential to go up to eight seasons as it follows the books by Julia Quinn. 

There are eight books in total and with each book being a full season of the show the show could easily go up to its eight season. After the release of the first season, Bridgerton quickly became the most watched Netflix Original in the history of Netflix. 

The second season has already begun filming and the release is expected late this year. 

WILL REGÉ-JEAN PAGE RETURN?

Hearts broke across the world when Lady Whistledown announced that Regé-Jean Page will not be returning for the second season. It was further explained that the Duke of Hastings was only meant to be in the series for the storyline of Daphne Bridgerton finding a suitor. 

However, there have been recent reports that Regé-Jean Page is not returning due to him not liking what the producers had planned for his character. 

“Regé is not coming back to ‘Bridgerton’ because of creative differences with [executive producer] Shonda Rhimes and her team,” a Hollywood source told Page Six.

““He wasn’t happy with what was planned for his character for Season 2, which would have kept him a player but not the focal point of the show,” the source continued.

“Regé has been inundated  with offers for other interesting and challenging leading roles,” the source added.

The second season of Facebook Watch Series, Red Table Talk featuring the thoughts and opinion of three generations of women started with a bang. Jada Pinkett Smith and daughter Willow Smith revealed that they are both attracted to women in a new episode of the show.

“I could see you falling in love with a woman one day” said Jada Pinkett Smith to daughter Willow.

“I’ve had my fair share of like swooning and feeling like Oh my God, she’s so beautiful. She’s so talented,” replied Willow.

Tweeps tended to side with the singer with one saying that she has not yet heard the president say anything about artists and the state of their lives or the financial battles they are experiencing.

Another mentioned that the art industry has actually helped people survive lockdown as most people were stuck inside and have therefore relied on music more now than ever. So she feels like artists were not just ignored but “actively worked against”.

SIMPHIWE DANA TALKS RACE

After her rant about President Cyril Ramaphosa, Simphiwe Dana voiced her thoughts on race and politics saying that she feels there are very few white people with whom one can talk “healthy politics”. 

“And South Africa is really the bottom of the devil to have such healthy and constructive topics,” she continued in the thread.

“We could fight all these struggles together. We could fight to make humanity better, together,” she added.

“But we’re dealing with white people who are not willing to come to the table. Because they were so perfect, bona. Corruption of colonialism is not a thing. And the blacks came into power and messed up the utopia. Not because endemic corruption messed up everything. It is sad,” she ended.

WEIGHING IN ON NAC MAFOKATE SCANDAL

Simphiwe Dana also spoke out about the National Arts Council (NAC) scandal that involved Arthur Mafokate and his ex-girlfriend Chomee who reportedly received R2 million. In her tweet, she calls Mafokate, the “mastermind”.

TikToker @jeanniejay helped host a #StopAsianHate protest in New York and she was surprised to find the Umbrella singer amongst the crowd as one of the protesters. 

“Look who came out to our march I’m —- SENT ???????????? we stan our day 1 woke queen @rihanna,” she captioned the video. 

RIHANNA’S HANDMADE PLACARD 

Rihanna went fully undercover in a black facemask, dark sunglasses and a baseball cap holding a neon pink placard in the air. Her hand made placard read “STOP ASIAN HATE” on one side and “HATE= RACISM AGAINST GOD” on the other side.

Rihanna’s assistant Tina Truong also posted footage to her Instagram story of the Diamonds singer making the sign as well as a few videos from the actual protest. 

The Fenty Beauty owner is also seen dancing to chants of “my body, my business”.

FAN: ‘THAT’S YOU?’

Rihanna was so unrecognisable at the protest that a fellow protester asked her for her Instagram handle, possibly to tag her on his social media videos. 

Rihanna then typed in @badgirlriri on his phone and he took a while to digest that it is actually Rihanna. 

RIHANNA JOINS HASHTAG ACTIVISM

Aside from showing up to the protest, Rihanna also showed support for Asian people against hate on her social media accounts where she has a following of 93.9 million people, influential to say the least. She posted under #ProtectAAPILives to show support for Asian people. 

The #StopAsianHate movement has grown over the last few months following  asurge in Asian hate crimes following the coronavirus pandemic. According to Dazed Digital, a report found that 3800 Asian Americans reported hate related incidents since March of 2020 to February 2021.

The hate against Asian people was taken to the next level at the Atlanta shootings that killed eight women, six of which were of Asian descent. In Rihanna’s post she addresses the shootings .

“what happened yesterday in Atlanta was brutal, tragic, and is certainly not an isolated incident by any means,” wrote Rihanna on Instagram.

“I’m heartbroken for the Asian community and my heart is with the loved ones of those we lost yesterday,” she added.

WHAT IS ‘MONSTER’ ABOUT?

Monster, directed by Anthony Mandler, is based on the award-winning novel by Walter Dean Myers of the same title. The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and will now be released worldwide through Netflix. 

The film stars Kelvin Harrison Junior as the 17-year-old Steve Harmon, an honours student and photographer who lives in Harlem, New York, and attends an elite high school. He is convicted of felony murder and fights a complicated legal battle in order to avoid spending the rest of his life behind bars. 

“Steve Harmon, a 17-year-old honours student whose world comes crashing down around him when he is charged with felony murder. The film follows his dramatic journey from a smart, likeable film student from Harlem attending an elite high school through a complex legal battle that could leave him spending the rest of his life in prison,” according to Netflix. 

KELVIN HARRISON: ‘AN ESSAY TO AMERICA’

As mentioned earlier, Kelvin Harrison Junior will play the lead role. The film was five years in the making and since then, the #BlackLivesMatter movement has rised up for the rest of the world who have seen the struggle black people go through in the United States (US), especially with police brutality. 

“Five years ago, I had the privilege of being in a movie that felt is like an essay to America asking if they really saw me. Oftentimes, I still ask the same question,” Harrison wrote on Instagram. 

“Though so much has changed in the last five years, the defacement of our black men has not. I’m grateful to be able to release this movie, but I do hope it loses its contemporary relevance soon,” he continued. 

THE CAST AND CREW BEHIND ‘MONSTER’

Jennifer Hudson and Jeffrey Wright play the concerned parents of Steve Harmon. 

“It’s such a powerful film and it couldn’t come at a better time. For many reasons this story is close to my heart and I can’t wait for you all to finally see it,” wrote Jennifer Hudson on Instagram.

Other familiar famous faces include Nasir “Nas” Jones, Time Blake Nelson, Jharrel Jerome, Jennifer Ehle, Rakim Mayers, also known by his stage name “ASAP Rocky”, and Malcolm and Marie’s John David Washington. 

Nasir “Nas” Jones, alongside John Legend and Jeffrey Wright, are the film’s executive producers. The script was written by Radha Blank, Cole Wiley and Janece Shaffer.

HOW DOES IT DIFFER FROM ‘TIGER KING’?

The follow-up documentary is titled Louis Theroux: Shooting Joe Exotic.

Last March, Tiger King was released on Netflix when most of the world went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. The lockdown gave viewers more time to indulge in entertainment and this led to Tiger King trending on Netflix and social media.

The documentary followed two big cat enthusiasts Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin. Joe Exotic is currently behind bars serving a 22-year sentence for participating in a murder-for-hire plot against Carole Baskin, as well as violating several federal wildlife laws.

With Joe Exotic imprisoned, a follow-up documentary posed a challenge. Theroux, however, had interviewed Joe Exotic back in 2011 when he was filming America’s Most Dangerous Pets and in the new documentary, he revisits his old interviews with Exotic. 

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE ‘SHOOTING JOE EXOTIC’

“In the 90-minute one-off Louis Theroux: Shooting Joe Exotic, Theroux revisits his subject nine years on and tries to work out what has happened, examining his own experience with Exotic and wondering whether he could have done more,” reported The Independent. 

“The catalyst is a letter Joe sent from the depths of prison lockdown, asking a British journalist to get in touch with Theroux and tell him, ‘I need to tell the real story, but they keep me silenced’,” according to The Independent.

CAROLE BASKIN RETURNS 

Joe Exotic’s arch nemesis, animal rights activist Baskin, formed a significant part of the Tiger King documentary with many believing the conspiracy theory that she killed her former husband and fed him to her big cats. 

Baskin and her husband are also interviewed in the new documentary. 

“‘I think Louis Theroux handled the subject with thoughtfulness and a self-reflection that showed his sincere desire to understand,” said Baskin to Metro.

“My phone isn’t ringing off the hook with death threats and obscenities, so I think BBC viewers may be doing a bit of soul searching as well,” she added.

Teenagers, especially, have been severely impacted by the trauma of COVID-19. Zip Zap – which provides free youth and outreach programmes to young people from all walks of life – is a safe, fun, creative space where performers can find the human connection they crave, in a place where they can express themselves fully.

Walking the Covid-19 Tightrope

Laurence EsteÌve, Co-founder and CEO of Zip Zap, says the team used the time to radically rethink their budget, cut all possible costs, and innovate. “We’ve never worked that hard in our lives,” she said. Prioritising the wellbeing of the team and performers was the primary goal. They reopened their physical programmes as soon as they were able to, with the requisite protocols in place.

Throughout the varying levels of lockdown, the Zip Zap team stayed connected with performers, providing airtime, regular phone call check-ins, data, food parcels and an e-learning management system, with online programmes, training, tutorials, videos and games for its beneficiaries. This ensured all young people felt cared for – from performers based in Hout Bay’s Imizamo Yethu Township to Khayelitsha.

Acrobatics Out of the Ashes

The idea to make a movie came from Laurence’s daughter, Sabine van Rensburg. A former Zip Zap student and member of contemporary circus company Seven Fingers Arts Collective, she returned home and started teaching the professional performers at Zip Zap. Inspired to create, she dreamed up the idea of the acrobatic art film. The team committed – which meant not seeing anyone outside their ‘bubble’ for the duration of production – and filming was completed in just two months. 

EsteÌve says, “The result is beautiful. It’s energetic; it’s Cape Town. You know the flame lily that only grows when everything burns. And the phoenix that rises from the ashes. That’s what I learned. When everything is devastated, just create something new.”

As well as the art film, Zip Zap has a new live comedy-circus show called Slapstick, coming in July, plus an Artscape performance planned for October. But fans don’t need to wait that long! MOYA will air for 48 hours from 24 to 25 April, with tickets available on Quicket. Plus, residents and visitors in the Cape Town CBD on 14 April, are in for a surprise…Performers will dazzle with a series of pop-up acrobatic stunts set to take place around the Central City.

Tasso Evangelinos, CEO of the Cape Town Central City Improvement District (CCID), says, “We have so much admiration for the work that Zip Zap has done for the last 29 years. They’ve been phenomenally tenacious throughout lockdown and we salute them for their innovation and never-give-up attitude. We look forward to seeing the performers lighting up our CBD!”

The Show Must Go On

EsteÌve adds that while the community has rallied and supported the circus throughout this time, they still really need support. She stresses that Zip Zap is not just a show. The team runs myriad outreach programmes to reach at-risk youth. It’s flagship vocational programme, Dare to Dream (D2D), aims to alleviate poverty and reduce unemployment by using circus arts as a practical medium to teach soft skills, technical skills, artistic development and teaching capabilities.

D2D students are selected for the programme based on potential, and participate in different modules, including coaching the younger children. There’s also a ‘professional insertion year’, where they become work- and life-ready by working with Zip Zap.  

Xolani Sikunana, a D2D student, says the programme means the world, “I have learnt so much about my personal value and the importance of being myself. Through the programme I have opened up to others and I love sharing my knowledge.”

Siyabonga Swelindawo, a former student turned instructor, says D2D provides myriad opportunities to beneficiaries, “Opportunities to travel and to perform, to hone their skills, to meet and learn from our international interns who are specialists in various circus disciplines.  They benefit enormously from the skills share and transfer, enhanced self-development, and preparation for potential employment.”

SOMHALE MARRIAGE ON THE ROCKS FOR SOME TIME 

Somizi and Mohale’s marriage has been on the rocks for some time though. Initially Somizi said their marriage is just hitting the notorious “one-year challenge”. However, now that Somizi has cut all social media ties with his husband, it seems like there is a lot more to it… 

Rumours that the couple are no longer living in the same house have been circulating on social media for quite some time now, escalating in talk about a divorce.

NO MORE SOCIAL MEDIA LOVE 

In recent months, the couple has not been posting each other as much on social media as they once did. This has been rather odd considering they are both very public figures who do not let a day go by without posting updates about their lives on their own social media accounts.

Somizi’s last post with Mohale dates all the way back to December when the couple shared pictures of their Christmas together. 

The couple also did not share any romantic Valentine’s Day posts this year. And of course, these things did not go unnoticed by Somizi and Mohale’s social media fans. 

Somizi has 3.9 million Instagram followers and 2.6 million Twitter followers. Mohale, on the other hand, boasts 1.1 million followers on Instagram and 404 200 on Twitter.

STEP 1: SOMIZI REMOVES PICS FROM INSTAGRAM

However, soon after the divorce rumours began to circulate, Somizi quietly removed tons of pictures from his Instagram, including those that featured Mohale. 

Although Mohale is largely missing from Somizi’s social media accounts, musician Vusi Nova seems to have taken his spot.

Since the beginning of the year, Somizi has been posting pictures and videos with his best friend proving they spend most of their time together. And then there is of course their “bestie-cations”…

Did Vusi Nova really take Mohale’s spot in Somizi’s heart? Vusi Nova denied that he and Somizi have a romantic relationship although fans’ assumptions constantly run wild.

Kanye West: Never-before-seen footage of music, fashion, presidential bid

Fans can expect to see never-before-seen footage of the rapper in the doc, which follows his career in music and fashion, his 2020 presidential bid, and touch on the tragic death of his mother, Donda West.

The series is said to have been in the works for two decades, and while the ‘Stronger’ hitmaker is not working on the production himself, he has given his seal of approval.

Coodie and Chike’s Creative Control have joined forces with TIME Studios on the series, who distributed the 2018 Aretha Franklin concert film Amazing Grace.

“Your eggs are over easy, your toast done lightly. All that’s missing is your morning kiss that used to greet me. Now you say the juice is sour, it used to be so sweet. And I can’t help but to wonder if you’re talking ’bout me,” sang Somizi.

‘THE ONE’ ON NETFLIX

Around mid-March, Netflix released the sci-fi drama The One which quickly gained popularity. The series follows the life of Rebecca Webb, played by Hannah Ware, an ambitious and impulsive CEO of a matchmaking company that pairs people with their “perfect partners” based solely on their DNA.

The series is not based on a true story, but on John Mars’s book by the same title. One can’t help but to wonder whether finding your perfect match based on genetics could not become a reality in the future?

MATCHMAKING APPS BASED ON DNA

PHERAMOUR

According to The Tab, there has actually been a few apps that have attempted to match partners through DNA and genetics. Pheramour, a dating app which aimed to connect single people by using physical chemistry and social alignment went quite far and reportedly had 3000 members.

Pheramour required users to send their saliva in a tube to the company who then analyses the DNA and matches you with a potential partner. The app can pinpoint 11 genes that are proved to determine romantic and sexual attraction. However, this website is no longer available.

SINGLEDOUT

Another dating site which was started back in 2014, SingledOut, uses DNA samples to look for matches. The app, just like Pheramour required members to send a tube of saliva that the company sent to a lab to test for two genetic markers.

The app looks at serotonin labels and the effect on the immune system to determine the likeliness of a relationship between two people. The app is currently still running.

DIGID8

More recently, Professor George Church from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is developing a genetic-based dating app that focuses on compatibility. The app aims to stop genetic diseases that children inherit from their parents.

The app basically stops you from being matched with someone who has the same recessive genes as you do. The Digid8 website currently has a link to an app called Safem8.

This shows that there are apps out there that base their matchmaking on DNA and genetics, although, not as extreme as the service seen in The One.

WILL ‘THE ONE’ RETURN FOR A SECOND SEASON?

Despite The One only having been released recently, aActress Zoë Tapper who plays detective Kate Saunders, hinted that there could be more to the story in the future. 

“Obviously you’ve started to see the cracks forming, you see the cracks forming in the characters, but you also see the cracks forming in the actual business model,” said Tapper to The Express.

“Because it’s had such a global effect, it’s as big as Facebook. People have taken this by storm, taken it on board, and it’s changed their lives,” she continued.

The Afro-house group has teamed up with Berlin-based production duo YouNotUs for the fifth official single from their We Made It album. Chucks — which was released on 26 March — is their long-awaited “tribute to living well” and has been waiting in the wings for the right time to bring some of that Mi Casa spirit back into the party feels.

YouNotUs will be flying out to shoot the video alongside Mi Casa in Namibia.

Remote collaboration

 Luckily for technology the two acts were able to collaborate completely remotely during lockdown and working with the Mi Casa track brought out all the “summer feelings” in the Berlin-based act. 

“During the production we were inspired by the longing for warm summer nights spent partying. We feel this song will guide us back into summer and a more carefree time,” commented Tobias and Gregor from YouNotUs. 

Mi Casa in a nutshell

Mi Casa have dominated the South African music charts for the past 10 years with a total of eight No 1 singles and a wall of awards and accolades, including no less than five South African Music Awards (Sama).

The trio consists of Joao Da Fonseca (aka J’Something) as the lead singer/songwriter, Sipho Mphahlaza (aka Dr Duda) as DJ/producer and Moshe Kgasoane (aka Mo-T) as the band’s trumpeter.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ‘BRIDGERTON’ SEASON TWO 

The exit of the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, left fans in tears and Netflix is trying to patch things up by giving viewers four new reasons to watch season two. 

Regé-Jean Page is simply not returning for season two because the original storyline, based on the books written by Julia Quinn. This is because the second book — or the series’ second season — shifts the focus from Daphne and Simon’s romance to Daphne’s older brother Anthony’s (Jonathan Bailey) love life. 

Back in February, Netflix announced that Simon Ashley will be playing Kate Sharma, Anthony’s love interest.

Charithra Chandra will be playing Edwina Sharma, Kate’s younger sister who promises to be the “perfect debutante”.

Kate and Edwina seem to have an adoring relationship as she hopes to find her sister the love match she has been dreaming of.

Shelley Conn will play Mary Sharma, mother to Kate and Edwina Sharma. 

“Lady Mary’s marriage once embroiled her and her family in scandal. Now newly returned to London with her daughters, she’s forced to endure the scrutiny of the ton yet again,” wrote Shondaland on their Instagram page.

3. CALAM LYNCH 

Calam Lynch will step into the role of Theo Sharpe, a hardworking printer’s assistant and human rights activist.

“A hardworking printer’s assistant, but he’s not just a working class man, he’s also an intellectual who fights for the rights of all,” wrote Shondaland.  

4. RUPERT YOUNG

Rupert Young will play Jack, a new member of the “Ton”.

“The newest member of the Ton with a connection to one of its most notable families,” wrote Shondaland. 

The storytelling company behind the popular series also revealed another snippet of information about Kate Sharma’s character. 

“Kate is equal parts headstrong and whip-smart. Her sharp wit and independent nature makes her a singular force on the 1814 marriage mart where she hopes to secure a love match for her younger sister, Edwina.”

WHAT WAS THE FIGHT ABOUT?

A source revealed to Sunday World that Kay made some nasty comments about Seopela which prompted Khathi to jump into action. Kay had to be taken to hospital for treatment after the attack.

A source from Multichoice revealed that production had to be put on ice for a month while Kay is recovering from the attack.  

“The two decided to take things to the street, beating the poor girl like she had taken one of their men,” the source told Sunday World. 

The two ladies allegedly left the club to first change from their heels into sneakers and then continued their attack. The fight was eventually stopped by production staff and security guards who threatened to call the police. 

NOT ‘BULLY’ GUGU’S FIRST TIME

This is apparently not the first time that Khathi has attacked someone.

“Don’t be fooled by Gugu’s glam…She once attacked my friend in a club, accusing her of flirting with DJ Tira,” said a source to Sunday World. 

The cast were interviewed about the incident and they have allegedly said that they do not feel safe working with Khathi and think she is a bully. They have also stated that Seopela is “cold and mean”.

CHRISTALL KAY SEEKS LEGAL ADVICE

The RHOJ star confirmed that the incident took place and that she is in the process of laying charges against Khathi.

“I deny any charges against myself. Gugu Khathi is the one who punched me in the eye, resulting in a black eye. She did this when I was sitting down and there was no threat to her,” she said to Sunday World.

“I have evidence to prove this. She is scared over what she has done and is trying to make out a case against me. Charges are currently being laid against her,” she added.

GUGU KHATHI RESPONDS

Khathi also confirmed that the incident had taken place, but she questioned why Kay chose her name out of everyone else in the club.

“I can confirm the incident happened, but what shocks is that fact that out of all the people in the club, how can Christall choose my name, there were too many people in that club, why does she pick me, besties don’t do that to each other,” said Khathi to Sunday World. 

RHOJ season three canned

Season three of RHOJ is said to have been canned.

“Season three of ‘Real Housewives of Johannesburg’ has been discontinued at this time. This is due to unforeseen circumstances experienced during the production of the show,” said M-Net’s senior publicity manager at local productions Philly Kubheka to Sunday World.
