Hot remix: Burna Boy takes Master KG’s ‘Jerusalema’ to next level
Master KG and Burna Boy gathered in virtual space to record the ‘Jerusalema’ remix – all in the space of 24 hours.
Master KG has collaborated with BET Awards nominee Burna Boy to remix his hit single Jerusalema which features vocalist, Nomcebo Zikode who is also known for hit songs Emazulwini and Imizamo Yami.
Jerusalema was one of the chart-topping hits for 2019. The song was No 2 on Ukhozi FM’s top 10 songs for 2019 and it boasts more than 26 million views on YouTube.
Virtual gathering
Master KG and the Nigerian music artist gathered in virtual space and recorded the song in May — all in the space of only 24 hours.
The Limpopo-born artist told Sowetan Live that this collaboration is a dream come true, and it will take his music to the next level as Burna Boy is a well-respected figure in the music industry.
“He brings the Nigerian flavour, gimmicks, pidgin English and a different approach to music. He had the Nigerian groove that we mix with South African style while we keep the originality of the song intact.” He said.
Raking in the YouTube views
The remix dropped Thursday midnight on all digital platforms and was welcomed by South Africans and most of the continent with good reviews. The song shot straight to No 2 on iTunes and already has more than 98 000 views on YouTube.

He was nominated for a a Grammy Award, but lost to Angelique Kidjo who dedicated the award to him during her acceptance speech. He had also received a BET Award and a number of MTV Africa Music awards. He is also among the nominees for this year’s BET awards in the Best International Act category.
Burna Boy also featured on AKA’s All Eyes On Me, along with Da L.E.S and JR with the song certified platinum in 2016. He also featured on Baddest (also by AKA) is still among the most played songs on South African radio despite being released in 2014.
