Now more than ever we are constantly reminded how we cannot rely on only one source of income. Emtee (real name Mthembeni Ndevu) has been mum for quite some time now.

We all thought he was probably cooking up new music, but as his latest Instagram post suggests, he was actually cooking up a whole different meal: Sneakers!

Emtee the Sneaker

According to the post, there are five sneakers that are a part of the Emtee sneaker range.

Out of those, there are two standouts — one white and one black — and both have thick red soles.

The big feature is that they have his name written in large letters at the back of the heel. The other three shoes in the range are glossy fire-engine red, smooth yellow, and maroon with white soles.

A fan fave

The Roll Up hitmaker only previewed the first two sneakers with fans but that was enough to set tongues wagging and garner support.

Most congratulated Emtee on his new venture and asked when and where they can buy the sneakers as they cannot wait to rock them.

Full ownership

Emtee has been beaming with pride at the fact this was his brand on the sneaker and that he is not an ambassador.

Was that perhaps the rapper taking a jab at AKA, who said on Twitter a month ago that Reebok did not pay him a dime for his sneakers (sips tea)?

Emtee even shot down a fan who asked if he had 100% ownership of the shoes, to which he replied: “I am a businessman, so DON’T worry about that”.

But he does thank Spelete, which created the shoe for making his dreams come true. Spelete is a local clothing brand for casual everyday wear.

On to better things

These are happy times for the 28-year-old who recently started his own record label called Emtee Records.

He had a nasty fall-out with the ever-so-controversial Ambitiouz Records that left him with financial woes. He has since taken the label to court and the battle is on with the stable over royalties and personal achievements.

Emtee claims he has not received what is due to him, and that he has lost his luxurious house and cars. He now seems determined to get back to winning ways.
