Netflix’s ‘You’ Season 3: Tune in for obsession-worthy details
Here is everything you have been dying to know about the season 3 release date, and plot of Netflix’s show ‘You’.
In its first two seasons, You, the under-appreciated Lifetime-series-turned-breakout-hit on Netflix took stalking to the next level. You Season 3 will be here soon, and it’s going to be gripping.
The crime fiction and psychological thriller debuted its first season in 2018 and announced its third iteration in January 2020 on social media.
With the second season finale cliffhanger, You fans are dying to know whether the saying “old habits die hard” resonates with sinister stalker, Joe Goldberg’s character in the new season.
This month, numerous Hollywood magazines have unpacked detailed You Season 3 information. Here is everything you need to know.
You tax credit equals renewal
In December 2019, Deadline reported that the third season of the show was awarded $7.213 million California tax credit – which was apparently very good news.
“Receiving a tax credit does not guarantee a renewal but it helps secure one as it makes a series more advantageous financially. It is the studio, which proactively applies for a tax credit on a pilot or series, whose pickup chances its executives feel confident about.”
An uncertain release date
Earlier this year in January, Netflix announced that You Season 3 will be returning in 2021 with ten featured episodes.
While a set date is yet to be confirmed, there will be a slightly longer gap between You Season 2 and 3 considering the widespread production delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, it was confirmed that co-creators Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti will return as executive producers.
Showrunner and co-creator Sera Gamble took to Twitter on 7 February to share the exciting news that production had kicked off.
The renewed plot inspired by You Love Me
We might not have a confirmed release date for the third season, but we do know that the author of the books — which the Netflix series is an adaptation of — recently finished her third Joe Goldberg book.
Caroline Kepnes, who wrote You and Hidden Bodies, took to Twitter in August to announce the book’s release date.
In relation to Kepnes’ book, Gamble hinted that the third season would explore Joe’s abilities as a father.
“We’ve got lots of great stuff from the books, and also some new things that have come about as a result of changing the story for TV,” Gamble said in an interview with Metro UK.
In another interview with Us Weekly’s Watch With Us podcast, Gamble commented:
“I think the very best thing inside of Joe is his desire to protect innocent young people, that’s so sincere. It’s obvious that he doesn’t have any ulterior motive beyond maybe just wanting another kid to have a better childhood than he did.”
Adding ‘fresh blood’ into the mix
In October 2020, it was announced that Penn Badgley (Joe) and Victoria Pedretti (Love) would be joined by two new characters in the upcoming third season.
According to Netflix, viewers can expect to see Shalita Grant playing Sherry — a “Mom-fluencer” and mean girl who lures Love into her social circle — and Travis Van Winkle playing Cary — a wealthy individual who invites Joe into his inner circle.
Whether or not either new character will survive the third season is anyone’s guess.
What about the Season 3 trailer?
Moving forward, fans should not expect any sort of teaser trailer or official full-length trailer until closer to 2021.
You is a show that benefits from having fans wonder what will happen next, especially when the tables are turned on Joe.
