Chiefs are actively pursuing a new striker to bolster their squad, but their primary target, Fiston Mayele, remains elusive. Reports suggest that with Mayele’s move in jeopardy, Chiefs have turned their attention to Young Africans’ standout, Clement Mzize.

Insider information reveals Chiefs’ new striker strategy

Recent insights from sources close to the situation reveal that Kaizer Chiefs have shown interest in Clement Mzize, a 20-year-old striker from Yanga SC. Although discussions are underway, the transfer hasn’t materialised yet. The club is facing challenges securing their top choices, which includes both Mayele and Botswana international Tumisang Orebonye from ASFAR of Morocco.

“The coach has emphasised the need for a striker, and with their main targets proving difficult to secure, they are now considering Mzize. They are working tirelessly to land Mayele or Orebonye, but if those deals fall through, Mzize is a viable alternative. The current squad features Christian Saile and Ashley Du Preez, who are more suited to wing roles, while Ranga Chivaviro is the only experienced outright striker,” said a source familiar with the team’s plans.

Why Clement Mzize could Be Kaizer Chiefs’ game-changer

The same source elaborated, “Kaizer Chiefs are focused on winning trophies and need a reliable goal-scorer. If they can’t land Mayele or Orebonye, Mzize could step in and fill that role. The club has already made inquiries about his availability, and if other options fall through, they are prepared to move forward with Mzize.”

A second insider has revealed that Kaizer Chiefs are also bracing for potential departures of current players. “The club is considering loaning out Saile, and Du Preez might move to Portugal. Therefore, Chiefs need to explore replacements before the transfer window closes at the end of September. Clement Mzize is among the options they are evaluating. And could be an affordable solution,” the source noted.

As the transfer deadline approaches, Kaizer Chiefs are keeping all options open, with Clement Mzize emerging as a key target if their primary targets remain out of reach.
