‘Scandal!’ cancels seven-day weekly broadcast
E.tv’s longest running soapie, ‘Scandal!’ cancelled its seven-day weekly broadcast on Wednesday, 28 August.
E.tv’s popular soapie, Scandal! has scrapped its seven days a week broadcast.
‘SCANDAL!’: BACK TO REGULAR FIVE DAYS PROGRAM
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela confirmed on Wednesday, 28 August that the Scandal! will return to its five-days a week schedule.
“Scandal scraps 7-day week broadcast. The e,tv soapie will transition back to its regular five days-a-week broadcast schedule. #etvScandal returns to Monday-Friday from September 2nd at 19h30,” adds Mphela.
The soapie expanded its episode offering in July after losing its signature first position in March.
TVSA recently revealed that the popular soapie is South Africa’s most-watched TV show on the weekends.
The show is It’s outperforming SABC1’s Shuga Down South on Sundays at 19h30.
It also outperformed SABC1’s Uzalo daytime Omnibus on Sundays and all shows on SABC2, S3 and DStv across both nights.
The publication reveals that the e.tv show received 1.7 million viewers on Saturday, 10 August and 2 million viewers on Sunday, 11 August.
E.TV SOAPIE INCREASES EPISODES
The Broadcast Research Council of SA (BRCSA) figures reveal that Scandal!‘s viewership grew in July.
The July figures also reveal that the show received 3.6 million, while it pulled 3.2 million viewers in June.
This comes the e.tv soapie expanded its episode offering, by airing seven days on the 19:30 timeslot in July.
Scandal! became the first South African soapie to air daily with brand new episodes broadcasting from Mondays to Sundays.
The e.tv soapie currently competes with Mzansi Magic’s My Brother’s Keeper and SABC1’s Skeem Saam.
It remains in third place after House of Zwide with 4.6 million viewers while Isitha: The Enemy is second with 3.7 million.
The e.tv show is still trailing behind SABC1’s educational soapie, Skeem Saam which received 4.3 million viewers in July.
