It pays to play well in the LIV Golf League, just ask Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz.

The 33-year-old Ortiz won for the first time on the Saudi-backed circuit on Sunday after a 5-under 67 in the final round at Golf Club of Houston to claim the league’s eighth event of the 2024 season, LIV Golf Houston.

For his efforts, Ortiz took home the top prize of $4 million.

Poland’s Adrian Meronk finished runner-up, winning $2 250 000.

Louis Oosthuizen pulled out

It was a largely ‘disappointing’ week for the four South Africans in Houston.

Charl Schwartzel and Dean Burmester finished in a tie for 18th and won $235 000 (R4.4 million) each.

Branden Grace finished 52nd – and last – and took home $50 000 (R940 000).

Louis Oosthuizen withdrew ahead of the second round with a lower back injury.

Australia’s Wade Ormsby filled in for Oosthuizen for the final 36 holes.

Oosthuizen said he expects to return for LIV Golf’s next tournament in Nashville on 21-23 June.

The Stinger GC team finished 11th out of the 13 teams competing.

Meanwhile, the Cleeks GC team of Meronk, Martin Kaymer, Richard Bland and Kalle Samooja shared $3 million for winning the team competition.

With $20 million up for grabs, check out how much money each player and team earned at LIV Golf Houston.
