Salt Bae wants a piece of Lionel Messi

Messi wasn’t in the mood to hang around and chitchat with Salt Bae. However, the celebrity chef finally got his way, posing for a photo with the great man. He obviously shared that on his Instagram, where he has 49.8 million followers. Messi doesn’t look too stoked. Let’s see how the interaction unfolded:

Messi confirms GOAT status

Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi scored twice in a breathless 3-3 draw with France which eventually went to penalties. The jubilant scenes after the match were tempered somewhat (excuse the culinary pun) by Salt Bae’s insistence on being involved. The viral celebrity chef, whose real name is Nusret Gökçe managed to get on the pitch and in amongst the newly-crowned World Champions.

Salt Bae, donning his usual attire of suit and sunglasses, was just one of many people bombarding Messi with picture requests. He finally got his wish. Nusret also managed to snap a shot with a bunch of other Argentinian stars, including goal-scorer on the night Angel Di Maria.

Salt Bae is (in)famous for his ludicrously expensive gold steaks, and he managed to get his hands on the 18-carat gold World Cup trophy, said to be worth £17.7 million.

Tweeps have their say on Salt Bae

One wrote: “Gotta respect Salt Bae. Never has a man rinsed more out of putting some salt on a steak.”

A second said: “Salt Bae pestering Messi has to be the perfect symbol for all the awful off-field s**t hovering around and poisoning anything good about this World Cup. Dismal little character.”

Journalist Martyn Ziegler commented: “I’d love to hear FIFA’s explanation of why this celebrity chef gets access onto the pitch at a World Cup final for selfies with Messi etc.”
